Vegetables are a major source of vitamins, minerals, and fibers; their nutritive and medicinal values in human life are well documented. Vegetables are a very important part of a good diet as they contain various nutrients for many body functions. These vegetables also provide taste, palatability, better digestibility to us, and increase the appetite. Due to heavy workload and lack of nutritious vegetables in daily diet farm women face deficiencies of various nutrients especially iron-deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency is the most prevalent deficiency in the world. It is estimated that it affects 40 % of the world’s population most of whom are women and children. Iron deficiency accounts for 50 % of the global burden of anemia and is the leading cause of anemia in Asia.   On the occasion of Swacchata Abhiyan, Method Demonstration of Vermin Composting was given to 62 farm women at Katkalamba village Tq. Kandhar Dist. Nanded by Prof. Madhuri Revanwar (Home Scientist) on 18/12/2020. Women play a vital role in all farm and farm allied activities in rural areas. Cleaning the house yard and animals, cooking, and other basic activities at home are totally dependent on women. With the help of cow dong, tree leaves, and other kitchen weast, women can make the best quality vermicompost at the household level. This compost is useful to develop an organic nutrition garden in the backyard of the house. Hence, by considering the cleanliness of the yard, good quality compost, and organic vegetables at the household level, a demonstration of vermin compost was organized. Also, information on the nutrition garden was given to present participants. Dr. S D Kulkarni (Senior Scientist and Head) and Dr. Nihal Mulla (Veterinarian) were also guided the women.

An outbreak of Surra disease was observed in the surrounding area of Biloli Tahsil. This disease is highly fatal to all animals,  especially the equine family. It is always better to prevent the disease than treating the ill animal. Hence, in December, through Dharma Donkey Sanctuary’s Animal Care Centre, we organized 5 Animal health checkups and deworming camps at Arali, Mugav, Barbada, Sujalegav, and Sagroli. In this campaign, more than 600 donkeys were examined and injected with medicine that helps prevents Sarra disease and dewormed with deworming solutions. This Deworming will benefit the animal for proper growth and development and to utilize the whole nutrients for their own. It also helps to prevent a painful condition called Collic, which is very common in all equine family.  One day training program on “Geranium Production & Extraction Technology” organized at KVK Sub center Atkali along with field visit on Geranium Crop and Extraction unit at Shahapur taluka Deglur on dated 22 December 2020. This training program organized in coordination with the H.S Kelkar Pvt Ltd Mumbai a leading company in the procurement of aromatic oil in Asia.Lead trainer Shri. Sukeshkumar Sinha Crop expert from H.S Kelkar guided framers on the Geranium crop cultivation, extraction technology, the scope of Nanded district, it’s economics, etc. For this program SSM chairperson Shri. Pramod Deshmukh presided over the program and says that SSMKVK going to start a Geranium extraction unit at Atkli and nearby farmers should grow the geranium crop and earn more profit than the traditional crops KVK will give by back guaranty for the crop.
