Animal Health Check-up and Deworming Campaign
An outbreak of Surra disease was observed in the surrounding area of Biloli Tahsil. This disease is highly fatal to all animals, especially the equine family. It is always better to prevent the disease than treating the ill animal. Hence, in December, through Dharma Donkey Sanctuary’s Animal Care Centre, we organized 5 Animal health checkups and deworming camps at Arali, Mugav, Barbada, Sujalegav, and Sagroli. In this campaign, more than 600 donkeys were examined and injected with medicine that helps prevents Sarra disease and dewormed with deworming solutions. This Deworming will benefit the animal for proper growth and development and to utilize the whole nutrients for their own. It also helps to prevent a painful condition called Collic, which is very common in all equine family. Also during the campaign owners of the donkeys were demonstrated with proper deworming methods, how to do first aid in injured donkeys, and also a demonstration of care and management of Hoof trimming and hair cutting (Babri). Also, a healthy donkey competition was conducted in which 8 owners took participation. A donkey of their own choice was judged by the group of owners. For judging health, body conformation, body injuries, presence of scarring, and general cleanliness of the donkey were the parameters. Based on unanimous decisions from the group, the donkeys were given positive and negative points. A donkey with the highest positive points was selected as a good and healthy animal and awarded with a grooming brush. During the competition, Dr. Nihal, Mahesh Ambepod, Bhaskar Buchalwar, and Rajendra Girgavkar observed the entire procedure and helped owners to identify the judging parameters.
