Gangama Mandal of Nutrition Gardening for Household Nutritional Security

Vegetables are a major source of vitamins, minerals, and fibers; their nutritive and medicinal values in human life are well documented. Vegetables are a very important part of a good diet as they contain various nutrients for many body functions. These vegetables also provide taste, palatability, better digestibility to us, and increase the appetite. Due to heavy workload and lack of nutritious vegetables in daily diet farm women face deficiencies of various nutrients especially iron-deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency is the most prevalent deficiency in the world. It is estimated that it affects 40 % of the world’s population most of whom are women and children. Iron deficiency accounts for 50 % of the global burden of anemia and is the leading cause of anemia in Asia. To control this major problem especially in women, vegetable nutrition gardening (kitchen garden) is very effective. Also In COVID 19 situation, it is very important to grow a nutrition garden in front or back of each house. So that availability of fresh, chemical-free vegetables will be possible. It is very important to take vegetables in daily diet to improve immunity. Therefore, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sagroli Tq. Biloli Dist. Nanded organized a training program on Gangama Mandal of nutrition gardening for household nutritional security on 24/12/2020 under the Home Science department in coordination with the climate change resilience program of Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal.
